Narrator

1

After Jesus and his disciples had finished the Passover meal, he took them to the Hill of Olives to pray as usual.

Jesus

2

Sit here while I pray. Peter, James, John, come with me.

Narrator

3

Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him and headed a little further to pray. Then Jesus showed a very sad and painful expression.

Jesus

4

I'm feeling very sad right now. Stay awake here and pray together.

Narrator

5

After saying this to the three disciples, he went to the Garden of Gethsemane alone. At that moment, Jesus already knew that something terrible was going to happen to him.

Jesus

6

My Father in heaven, if You can, remove this cup from me. But do it as You will, not as I will!

Narrator

7

"Remove the cup" means "not to make terrible events happen." Jesus returned to the three disciples. Do you know what they were doing?

Peter James John

8

Zzz zzz...

Narrator

9

They were all sleeping!

Jesus

10

Wake up, Peter! Can't you stay awake just for one hour for me? Stay awake so that you will not give in to the temptation.

Narrator

11

Then, Jesus went back to the Garden of Gethsemane alone.

Peter

12

I was warned by Jesus, but I am so sleepy.

James

13

So am I.

John

14

Me, too.

Narrator

15

They fell asleep again. After a while, Jesus came back again to the disciples.

Jesus

16

Oh...

Narrator

17

Jesus went to pray again after seeing the three disciples sleeping. After coming back from the prayer for the third time, they were still sleeping.

Narrator

18

Just like Jesus, we should always pray, especially when we are upset. When we pray, God gives us strength. It is very important to pray every day. Don't fall asleep like the disciples.

Luke 22:42

1

“Father,” he said, “if you will, take this cup of suffering away from me. Not my will, however, but your will be done.”

Words from the Bible - Matthew 6:9-15 - Lord's Prayer

2

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
