One day, a traveler was on his way from Jerusalem to Jericho. This place wasn't safe. A robber was waiting to attack the travelers.
Robber

Give me all your money!
Traveler

Oh, no! Please don't hurt me!
Narrator

The traveler was left hurt on the ground. A priest walked by. A priest is a person who helps connect God with people.
Traveler

Help!
Priest

This place is dangerous! I don't want to be attacked like that! Let's pretend I didn't notice. I'm so busy.
Narrator

The priest noticed the traveler, but pretended not to hear him and walked past him. Then a Levite passed by.
Traveler

Please help me!
Narrator

Levites are also important people who help connect people with God like priests.
Levite

I cannot hear anything. I cannot see anyone. I'm so busy because I have important things to do!
Narrator

The Levite passed by without looking at the traveler.
Traveler

Maybe no one will help me. I might die here.
Narrator

Then, a Samaritan walked by. At that time, Samaritans and Jews were not good friends. He noticed the traveler.

Help!
Samaritan

Oh, no! Are you okay? Let me help you.
Traveler

Thank you, kind stranger. You are a Samaritan and I am a Jew. Why are you helping me?
Samaritan

Now is not the time to think about such things.

The Samaritan bandaged the traveler's wounds and took him to an inn.
Samaritan

Innkeeper, please take care of this man. Here is some money to cover his expenses.
Innkeeper

Of course! I will make sure he receives the best care.

The Samaritan thanked the innkeeper, and the traveler thanked the innkeeper, too. The Samaritan's kindness inspired others and a crowd of townspeople gathered around to see the good deed.

This is the story of the Good Samaritan. This is what Jesus meant when He said to love your neighbor.
Luke 10:36-37

And Jesus concluded, “In your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man attacked by the robbers?” The teacher of the Law answered, “The one who was kind to him.” Jesus replied, “You go, then, and do the same.”
