10. The Parable of the Talents

Once upon a time, there was a wise and wealthy Master who had three servants. He scolded his servants sometimes, but he loved his servants and trusted them with his possessions.

One day, the Master decided to go on a journey. He called his servants to his room.

Master

My lovely servants, I am going on a journey, and I want the three of you to take care of my money.

Narrator

The Master gave 5 talents to his first servant, 2 talents to his second servant, and 1 talent to his third servant. At that time, one talent was almost the same as three years' salary.

Use them wisely! You can tell me how you used it when I return.

The first servant was a talented servant.

Master, I have doubled your talents that you entrusted to me. Here is what I have earned.

Let me see. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, night, ten! Ten talents! Well done, my good and faithful servant! I am proud of you!

Master, I have also worked hard and I have also doubled your talents. Here they are.

Let me see. One, two, three, four! Four talents! Well done! I'm proud of you, too! How about you?

Servant 3

Master, I know you are a hard man. I was scared that you were going to scold me if I lost your money, so I buried your talent in the ground to keep them safe. Here they are.

You lazy servant! You should have at least put my money in the bank so that I could have earned some interest. Give that one talent to the servant who earned 5 talents!

To those who use their talents wisely, more will be given. But to those who do not use them, even what they have will be taken away. The parable of the talents teaches us that we should use our gifts and abilities wisely to honor God.

For to every person who has something, even more will be given, and he will have more than enough; but the person who has nothing, even the little that he has will be taken away from him.
